Welcome to Tint.

Welcome to Tint.

Philipp Otto Runge, Colour Spheres c 1810.

I worked at MIX Magazine for all but the first of 80 issues, spanning the last 20 years, writing about every aspect of colour, design and materials. Together we weathered seismic changes in publishing, politics and culture, not to mention a global pandemic and the rise of AI. Sadly, there was no getting away from radical changes in print media; people choosing different platforms for their news and inspiration. The last issue of MIX was printed in December 2025.

Yet there were still so many stories I wanted to tell. This is why I have created Tint Magazine. My ambition is to build a community of like-minded colour and design obsessives and continue the legacy of MIX Magazine in a digital format. You can help me achieve this ambition by signing up as a subscriber.

I truly believe that there is a role for stories told by people rather than AI, a belief that stems from this technology's limitations. AI can't talk to people, visit shows, admire the physical quality of a designer's work. It can't curate. Tint Magazine is all about going back to basics, paying attention, making connections, visiting those shows and reporting back. That is the plan.
